In my estimation, this particular case is the extreme, not the norm. Do we as parents have a right to moniter our teens facebook? Until he or she becomes a legal adult I believe we do. Do we have the right to place filters on our computers so our teen does not see or read inappropriate things? We do.

Why? Because God placed our children in our care for a short time to raise them to be responsible adults and to do our best to lead them to love, respect and honor his parents, and God, our Creator, the Creator of the universe, the ultimate authority.

However, the Bible teaches that parents should not provoke his children. Part of our responsibilty in the eyes of God is to lead, guide, and teach them with respect and love so as not to break their spirit. I agree with Greg ~ we should probably not comment on our teens facebook page, especially if they ask us not too. But let's not mistake that for not monitering it and having a private conversation with them if needed. Isn't that what parenting with a purpose is all about?

I realize that in this society their are many families where Dad is not around, or Mom thinks innapropriate behaviors are normal for teens and will not moniter, teach, or guide their children.

Let's hope and pray that our country's leaders and judges will not let an extreme situation like the above take away parent's right to respectfully moniter, lead and teach our children as God would have us do.

I wonder if Denise New (the mom) really "hacked into his Facebook account, changed his password, and even posted things about him that were slanderous". If she did actually do these things, that was not cool. Maybe even illegal.

Either way, there is clearly a lack of communication and trust between mom and son. My first thought was "where is dad?" Chances that dad is out of the picture is high. That makes me sad.

I should post some "do's and don'ts for parents" in regards to "facebooking" with your teenagers. General Rule #1 - Parents, it's generally a bad idea to post or comment directly to your child's facebook page. Send them an email if you want to talk "electronically" with them.

In this case in Arkansas, the problems started way before either mom or son signed up for their facebook accounts.

I would like to subscribe to your blog but I am not savvy enough to know how to subscribe - can you do that or do I just need to look it up every day? I really found your articles and things you shared insightful and helpful. Thanks!

Enjoying your blog - thanks. On this point, I think it goes all the way down to kindergartners. :) I've come to think of it as "eye time", I don't know if I got that from someone I should be crediting it with or not. But it's a reminder to me that half-listening or (worse) lecturing, while I'm busy doing something else, doesn't "count".
